Here I share some curiosities about this fascinating project: How did the album come about?, Who chose the repertoire?, To who is this album dedicated?, Who made the production and arrangements for guitar? and much more.
How did this album come about?
In June 2016 the concert ‘Plácido en el Alma’ took place in Madrid: more than fifty singers, musicians and artists, in front of 85 thousand spectators live at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium and live broadcast by Real Madrid Television, to share and honor the great tenor. Plácido and Pablo had met a short time ago and the maestro had invited the guitarist to be one of the artists who would accompany him on stage. The day after the concert, Plácido called Pablo to tell him that he wanted to record a new album in a duet with him.
Who chose the repertoire?
It was a selection led by Plácido and Pablo, where the producer Rafa Sardina and the Sony team made valuable contributions.
Who is this album for?
Although it is open to all who wish to enjoy it, Plácido Domingo recognizes that it is closer to the public of its genre and to that of Pablo, which is classical music, although it is an album full of popular pieces. For the pieces it contains, it is identified with a generation: the one that sang and vibrated with the musical trios in the 60s and 70s on both sides of the Atlantic.
Why the name Volver?
Volver, besides being the name of one of the significant songs that the record has, it expresses the reunion of a repertoire with a nostalgic touch that has thrilled millions of people around the world.
What musical genres does the CD contain?
It contains a mixture of styles such as bolero, copla, tango and fado.
Do all parts of the record share voice and guitar?

Valeria’s Bossa, Una limosna por el amor and Guajira Guantanamera are exclusive pieces of guitar.
Where was the disc recorded?
It was recorded in studios in Los Angeles, New York and London depending on the availability of Placido. The CD is the result of intense days of work that began at 8 in the morning and ended near dawn.
Who made the production of Volver?
Rafa Sardina, from Guernika and winner of 12 Grammys Awards and 35 times nominated to them. He has worked with Stevie Wonder, Lady Gaga, Luis Miguel, Clare Fischer Big Band, Illya Kuriaki and The Valderramas, Alejandro Sanz, Natalie Cole, Black Crows, Celine Dion, Greenday, Madonna, The Rolling Stones, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Frank Sinatra among others.

The arrangements of Volver are the work of Sergio Assad, virtuoso guitarist, composer and Brazilian arranger with whom Pablo has a close relationship. Assad has made outstanding arrangements of diverse chamber music for Gidon Kremer, Dawn Upshaw, Yo Yo Ma, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, TrioConBrio, Iwao Furusawa, Paquito D’Rivera, Turtle Island String Quartet, Los Angeles Quartet, Luciana Souza and Vancouver Cantata singers.
